21CD Statement on Recent Press Releases From Club Chairman

The Club Chairman’s recent communications, on the club website and via WhatsApp to Gold Club members and sponsors, rather than instilling confidence has only solidified 21CD’s concerns and justified our members’ vote of no confidence in his leadership.

In particular, comments made via WhatsApp to Gold Club members referencing internal matters were inappropriate and unprofessional. There is no evidence to support the suggestion that any board member or individual reported anyone to the FA. Sharing such unverified and confidential information publicly undermines the trust and professionalism expected of those in leadership roles.

The Trust has not encouraged any volunteer to step down; volunteers have made their own decisions to withdraw their services due to the toxic environment and instability caused by the ongoing crisis of leadership at the club. The 21CD Committee has also not managed the club website.

Companies House shows that five directors have resigned in the last month - the club board is now operating at severely reduced capacity with just three directors remaining. We believe it is Graham Read’s failure to act with maturity, integrity and respect for democratic structures that has led to this outcome, and that his position is untenable.

21CD encourages all dedicated volunteers and match day staff to continue supporting the team if they feel able to do so, while reiterating our stance that Graham Read should immediately step down as Chairman, transfer the trademark to the club, and actively seek a buyer for his majority shareholding.
